The extension of the ACT lockdown until October 15 has put the final nail in the coffin for the Goulburn Geckos' premiership hopes.

After the ACT government announced its decision to extend the lockdown on Tuesday, Hockey ACT released a statement on Thursday which confirmed the cancellation of the remainder of the season.
The announcement from HACT did not come as a surprise to the hockey community, as the organisation had said previously that October 10 was the cut-off date for the season.
In the statement, HACT CEO, Rob Sheekey, expressed his regret at having to call off finals.
"Given the earlier decision that Hockey ACT would not extend the season beyond 10 October, it is with extreme disappointment that the decision has been made to declare the 2021 Winter Season complete," Sheekey said.
"This decision is incredibly difficult to make, however given the current climate it is the only decision that could be made."
It draws the curtain on a season in which both the Goulburn men's and women's teams have exceeded expectations.
The men finished the year ranked fourth on the ladder and were considered by many to be dark horses had the finals taken place.
Similarly, the women finished third after a strong year in which they firmly established themselves as title contenders. After a breakout season in 2020, it was particularly reassuring to the Goulburn District Hockey Association to see them continue their strong form into 2021.
Though no finals matches were played, premierships were still awarded to the highest-ranked teams in each competition.
"It is not the way many in Australia envision winning a competition but we believe it is important to recognise the hard work of those teams through the competition and reward them for the season they have had," Sheekey said.
HACT has now focused its attention on the indoor and summer social competitions, with slated start dates in November. These, however, will also depend on prevailing health advice from the ACT government.
The Brophy McKay Medal presentations will also take place entirely online, with a date yet to be confirmed.
