Although traditionally, the local touch football season would have started in October, COVID-19 restrictions precluded the GTA from doing so.
Instead, it has had to delay the beginning of the men's, women's, mixed seasons until January next year, while the junior season will hopefully get underway by Term 1 of 2022.
"It's still a bit up in the air," GTA president, Kevin Kara, said.
"The lockdown rules are changing every day, they're getting better and better thank goodness. We're waiting until NSW Health gives us the go-ahead."
There has been one new addition to the Goulburn season which has excited Kara and the rest of the touch football committee in the form of a Mixed Premier League competition.
The new division has been scheduled to take place across December 1, December 8, and December 12, with finals yet to be set. The premier league competition, Kara said, is intended to act as a pathway to prepare local players for representative touch football.
"What we're looking at is getting these kids who think they are capable of playing at a higher division," Kara said.
"Most of the players we have in the mixed, a lot of them just want to play for fun, which is fine by us. So we said 'Okay, we'll keep that going on a Wednesday night. Let's bring in this new premier league, and if you want to build up and play representative touch, we'll give you that.'
"Because Goulburn has gone away many times and represented at the Yass Knockout and State Cup and things like that, but we don't play at that higher level enough. So we though we'll put in this premier league, get everybody's skill level up higher, and go from there."
Registered players are welcome to nominate for places in the Mixed Premier League competition.
Four captains have been appointed to the premier league teams, which will each feature 12 players, and once the application period has ended, these captains will take turns selecting men and women for their sides.
Nominations for the premier league competition will open soon, with further information to be provided by the Goulburn Touch Association as it becomes available.
