Police across the country paused recently to honour their fallen, and as with each year on September 29, NSW Police gathered in small commemorations and virtual ceremonies to pay tribute to those we've lost.
This year, the life and service of Senior Constable Kelly Ann Foster was added to the Wall of Remembrance following her tragic death in January, marking her as the 275th fallen NSW Police Officer.
Her courage as a protector was epitomized when she gave her own life in an attempt to rescue another whilst canyoning in the Blue Mountains.
As we pause to remember our heroes and work alongside innumerable other organisations to embrace additional freedoms, we are reminded of the ongoing support from our local communities.
We are a family 17,000 strong.
But safety doesn't happen by accident; order isn't maintained by chance; and crime doesn't detect itself.
Not without the watchful eyes of the dutiful neighbour, the passing Samaritan, or the responsible road user. We are emboldened by every person who's put the welfare of others first.
From all staff at the Hume Police District, we extend our thanks to each individual who's committed to staying safe and helped keep our blue family safe throughout this difficult time.
For the kind words on social media, the passing smile on the street, the nod of acknowledgement and the handshake we all wish we could extend - thank you.
