Pigment 107 is a recent addition to Auburn Street, having opened its doors in August 2021 and is offering budding creators the chance to learn from lifelong artist and owner Michael Thomson.
Thomson is no stranger to the Goulburn art scene, having gotten his inspiration for Pigment 107 whilst livening up the Civic Centre.
"I'm an artist so I've been making my own artwork forever," he told the Post.
"I painted the columns at the civic centre. That was working outside for six weeks and I got to interact a lot with the public and it made me think that engaging more was something I wanted to do.
"I was really inspired by how passionate people were about the mural I was painting and engaging with it. There's obviously interest in Goulburn for creative stuff and it's something interesting I can bring to the community.
"There's a few shops that have been vacant for many years and I'd looked at them and thought about doing different businesses in them until I thought I'd just do it.
"I could have my studio there and people could come in and see an artist work as well as have some fun and make something."
It hasn't been an smooth road but despite the inevitable COVID-related hurdles, interest has been strong in what is a relatively new activity in Goulburn.
"I opened in August and then obviously got closed down with the lockdown and I reopened about six weeks before Christmas," he explained.
"So I've only been going a couple of months in total.
"It's been really popular. It's a bit shaky with cancellations because of COVID but there's been a lot of interest.
"Pottery has become very popular particularly with young people. There's a movement towards handmade items. In the 70s when I grew up it was popular as well before it was lost but it's undergoing a revival."
So, what does the space offer people? There's a fairly regular calendar of events and January is no exception.
"This Friday I have a 'paint and sip' and Saturday night I have a 'clay and sip' event," he revealed.
"Next Friday there's a 'clay and sip' party and another 'paint and sip' on Saturday. On Wednesday and Thursday nights I have a beginner's pottery course.
"It runs for four weeks and people can learn the basics."
