But in true Aussie spirit, a helping hand is always ready for those in need.
Goulburn High School has raised more than $2000 to help families in Lismore affected by the floods.
"It has been heartbreaking to see the devastation so many families have suffered following the floods earlier this year. Homes, businesses and schools have all been destroyed," Goulburn High principal Mr Yogesh Mani said.
"We as a school wanted to do something to help support the community of Lismore and this is why we have run the Vouch For Lismore campaign this term.
The school held BBQs and mufti days to raise funds and proceeds from the GHS: Live! event also went towards the campaign.
The GHS: Live! event consisted of several different student performances- music, dance and drama (monologues). There was also a display of student artworks.
"The funds raised will be used to purchase vouchers for businesses which families will be able to use to buy essential items during this difficult time," Mr Mani said.
