He missed out on the podium by just 0.456 seconds in the final race of round three of the Australian Superbike Championship at Wakefield Park on Sunday, April 24, but it was still a gallant effort.
While Wayne Maxwell edged past Mike Jones for first spot in a tight tussle, there was an equally intriguing battle for third.
Cru Halliday and Herfoss were trading laps at one stage, but it was the former who took home the last spot on the podium.

The hometown boy tried to get around Halliday in a crucial stage of the race, but ran wide, allowing Halliday to get away.
The 35-year-old was pleased with his fourth spot finish as it was his best result since suffering a compound fracture of his humerus, femur, and tibia, all on his right-hand side, back in June last year.
"I'm just really happy to be competitive again," Herfoss said.
"I've been wondering if I'll ever be competitive again.
"I almost got on the podium and I'm not far from where I was.
"This was by far my best result since my injury and it's been nothing but a pleasure for me to be here."
It's never easy coming back from injuries, especially fractures, but Herfoss has done so better than most.
He said the injury definitely affected his riding and while he feels he'll get back to his best, he doesn't believe he'll be able to do it in the same way.
"For example, I'm not as strong with braking as I can't get my body in the right position at the moment.
"I've noticed I'm better through the middle of the corner now."
After three rounds of the Australian Superbike Championship, Herfoss sits in eighth place, 51 points behind the leader Mike Jones.
The next round of the competition is in Darwin from June 17-19, exactly a year after Herfoss crashed.
