A woman is dead and her ex-husband is under police guard in hospital after a suspected domestic violence incident at a western Sydney home.

Police were called to the Rooty Hill house about 8.15pm on Tuesday amid concerns about the welfare of 50-year-old Christine Rakic, who was dead by the time they arrived.
Police say they found her 50-year-old ex-husband Dusan Rakic at the scene with critical wounds to his throat and arms, believed to be self-inflicted.
He was taken to Westmead Hospital under police guard, where he remains in an induced coma.
Superintendent Steve Egginton said the man was known to police, amid reports he had been charged with domestic violence-related common assault in recent months and an apprehended violence order had also been taken out against him on Ms Rakic's behalf.
"There's been some interactions with police in the past but not a lot," he told reporters on Wednesday.
It was likely Mr Rakic would survive given he was in a "critical but stable" condition, Supt Egginton said.
"Our main focus at the moment is with the family and providing as much support to the family as we possibly can given the tragic set of circumstances," he said.
"We deal with domestic violence every single day."
