School community links are also being forged – and there’s even some old school days reminiscing going on.
Importantly also, the vast majority of materials and labour is locally sourced, says site manager/supervisor Peter Ryan of ARW Multigroup.
“This is money flowing back into the local economy. I would say that 98 per cent of materials and labour has been locally sourced,” he said.
Bradfordville Public School is getting a new triple home base (three classrooms in one), a covered outdoor learning area (or COLA) and a library upgrade (which consists of two special programs rooms configured as a
computer lab).
The works, valued at $2.125 million, started at the beginning of the year.
Site managers ARW Multigroup (a Goulburn firm) expect to complete the job for handover in early October.
Principal Eric Patatoukos says the construction activity has been both a boost for the school community
and the local economy.
“It’s locals working on local projects - and you know that they’re going to take genuine pride in their work,” he said.
“What’s nice is that several of the workers were former students themselves while others also have children at the school or will have children here.
“There are positives all round ... there has been a real positive vibe about the school during the building activity and everyone can’t wait to get into the new buildings.”
The list of local contractors and firms involved with Bradfordville’s BER works also includes: Concrete 4 Goulburn, Goulburn Produce, CRL Electrical, Goulburn Plumbing, Crookwell Painting and Decorating, Justin Albury Communications, W.J.Searle Bricklayers, Divall’s, Carpet Court, Glenn Swift Tiling, Lock & Co Plastering, Ainsworth Engineering, Goulburn Electrical Wholesalers and Reece Plumbing.
ARW Multigroup is also site managing works at Goulburn West, Crookwell, Gunning and Gundaroo public schools.
Managing contractors for the Illawarra and South East (NSW Dept Education and Training) region, Richard Crookes Constructions, have also provided “invaluable help”, the school says.
