Under the able orchestration of local composer Paul Paviour, the audience was taken through Bach’s ‘Suite in G Minor Overture,’ Dunn’s ‘Suite: Prue Dance, illustrating in music the domestic life of a very young daughter, Coates’s ‘March,’ and more.
In Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music, soprano Phoebe Humphreys and mezzo-soprano Trudee Green tantalised with their angelic voices. Both are well known to Goulburn audiences.
Last year Miss Humphreys won the Dame Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Vocal Scholarship at the Sydney Eisteddfod. She has been trained in classical music since the age of 10.
Although living in Sydney, Phoebe is a semi-regular visitor to Goulburn. She is the granddaughter of Marulan district couple, David and Janelle Humphreys, who were proudly watching Sunday’s concert.
The gala event brought together some 40 members of the orchestra, a large choir including current and former Goulburn Consort of Voices members, the Great Dividing Range choir. The groups have been associated with the Conservatorium over the past 25 years.
Organist Heather Moen-Boyd’s performance was also a highlight.
The concert capped off a weekend of celebrations, including performances by students, staff and an ensemble at the Conservatorium on Saturday.
