Victoria Park on Wednesday January 26.
Some of the festivities include a snake and reptile show, free entry to the Aquatic Centre, market and food stalls, as well as a jumping castle and face painting for the kids.
The formal Australia Day ceremony will begin at 11.45am, and 34-year-old blind paralympian Bart Bunting will be announced as Goulburn’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2011.
Blind since birth, Mr Bunting (pictured with his guide dog Chevy) never let his disability hold him back. His adventurous spirit and love of sports led him to compete in triathlons, rock climbing and canyoning throughout is school years.
Mr Bunting completed a degree in Computer Science at Sydney’s University of Technology in 1994, but after a few years in the workforce he was looking for a new challenge and took up skiing in 1998.
He quickly excelled at the sport and in 2002 he competed at the Paralympic winter games in Salt Lake City, winning two gold medals in the downhill and Super G events, and one silver medal in the giant slalom.
His stunning Olympic performance ensured that he was chosen to carry the Australian flag into the closing ceremony of the games in Salt Lake City.
A testament to courage, hard work and sheer persistence, Mr Bunting’s Australia Day message is one of triumph in the face of adversity.
Help celebrate this deserving Australia Day Ambassador at Victoria Park on January 26. Festivities kick off at 9am and run through until 3pm.
