HIS team may have lost by a neat three converted tries, but Workers Bulldogs captain- coach James Aubusson had nothing but praise for his young side.

Before a capacity Crookwell crowd on Saturday, a Green Devils invitational All Stars side coached by former Raiders Ashley Gilbert and Jason Croker showed their class in a 28-10 win over an under strength Goulburn.
The result, however, was secondary. A pile of money was raised for the financially stricken Crookwell Green Devils, spectators were treated to a first rate rugby league contest and game-starved forwards spent plenty of time on the paddock.
If the turnout of the spectators, mood of players and atmosphere of goodwill is a fair indication, it’s likely the fixture could become a regular red-letter day on the rugby league calendar.
Aubusson said he was pleased with his side’s attitude and noticed a marked improvement from an 18-16 trial loss to Jamberoo the week prior.
“We went pretty well, considering the opposition... the young guys were outstanding,” Aubusson, sporting a few knocks, said on Monday.
“[I’m] looking forward to getting all the boys back this week though. We definitely took a step forward this week.” The Bulldogs will continue their preseason preparation with a fixture against Albion Park at Workers Arena on Saturday.
Fresh from two first-up losses, Aubusson will be itching for a win and a boost in morale with the Canberra Raiders Cup on the horizon. The 2009 premiers will commence their campaign with match against the Yass Magpies at Walker Park on April 2.
Home fans can expect to see their side at Workers Arena for the first time in the 2011 season on April 16 when they tackle Canberra Raiders Cup heavyweights the Queanbeyan Blues.
