Now the icon and subject of many promotional gags over the years, is spruiking the Goulburn Show on March 4 and 5.
Show president Jacki Waugh and helpers sashed Rambo with a 24-metre by three-metre champion ribbon early Tuesday.
“I’d been thinking about how to promote the show and woke up one morning and thought ‘why don’t we make Rambo a champion,’” Mrs Waugh said.
A call to Big Merino owners Robert Rampton and Steve Jones sealed the deal. Then Goulburn Motor Trimmers came on board, making the giant ribbon from shade cloth. Signage One pitched in with a banner and Tutt Bryant Hire loaned a boom lift to mount the sash. Divalls also contributed cement blocks to hold down the sash.
At 6.30am Tuesday all hands were on deck for the ceremonial sashing and a sheep’s eye view of Goulburn atop the famous merino.
Once again the Goulburn Show has a variety-packed schedule of events. The Show will be held at the Recreation Area on Braidwood Road.
