The Goulburn Marketplace is up for a major upgrade, if new designs get the go ahead from the council.
The Lederer Group has lodged a Development Application (DA) with Goulburn Mulwaree Council for a significant expansion and modernisation of the shopping centre.
The plans include more speciality shops, additional food offers with possible outdoor dining areas, together with a new outdoor children's play area.
Lederer CEO property Steve Lacey said the store upgrades would give shoppers more quality and choice.
“The existing mall will be improved with new finishes as well as the addition of brand new amenities and a parents room for the convenience of the shoppers,” Mr Lacey said.
“A new glazed facade will incorporate improved entry points and present an exciting new look towards the improved and expanded car park, with 50 additional bays added for the convenience of the shoppers.”
Under separate plans, shade sails for 112 car bays will be constructed early in the new year as well as new safe pedestrian pathways, modern LED lighting and landscaping with trees and planter boxes being installed.
Mr Lacey said the Lederer Group and the council have worked collaboratively in order to design a “high quality outcome”
“It will also be respectful to the setting within the heritage context of Goulburn,” Mr Lacey said.
Mr Lacey said while he did not have firm numbers on the possible job increases post development, he expected about 25 new permanent jobs to be created, with additional casual positions for the new specialty shops. He said local contractors are also being used for the construction.
Goulburn Mulwaree general manager Warwick Bennett welcomed the designs.
“The fact that developers are prepared to spend millions of dollars in this city is further proof that the Goulburn economy is strong and robust,” Mr Bennett said.
“This Marketplave upgrade complements a lot of the initiatives the council has undertaken in the CBD, and we thank them for their show of confidence in Goulburn.”
The DA is on exhibition until December 14 and can be viewed at the council.
