Glen Jobson was a member of the Australian team that competed at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956 and Errol Bill wore the Australian colours at the 1960 Olympics in Rome.
Both men are now retired down the coast with their wives but made the trip to catch up with friends and other Goulburn and district hockey players for their annual Christmas gathering at the Goulburn Soldiers Club.
Before the luncheon some of the group headed out to the Veolia Arena to take a look at the Goulburn Sporting Hall of Fame and reflect on the large number of hockey players who have represented Australia.
A figure quoted at the luncheon by organiser Grahame Hurrell was of the 400 Australian representatives since 1922 the district has produced 40. It has many more who have represented NSW and the ACT at both senior and junior level.
The Goulburn Retired Masters Hockey group meets monthly for lunch and to talk about hockey and twice a year they hold a big function at which spouses and other special friends are invited to share in their enjoyment of the sport.
Apart from a quiz on hockey facts from the past, some of which featured the era in which Errol Bill and Glen Jobson played, there was quite a bit of discussion on Goulburn’s proposed hockey complex at Carr Confoy Park.
Comments were positive the proposal and its benefits to the district.
