The Swans finished 2019 in fourth place on the AFL Canberra Men's Regional ladder, with six wins and nine losses at the end of the regular season, and Treloar was pleased with his first coaching experience.
"It was pretty successful up until the finals, we were doing pretty well and then got undone," Treloar said.
"We didn't have enough numbers on the list, and we're looking to grow that this year. It was pretty successful in terms that I've never coached before."
After the Swans won five of their first seven matches of the year, they could only manage one more in their final eight fixtures, against the similarly beleaguered Yass Roos in round 12.
"We started strong and went a bit off the pace after that, so we need a bigger list and hopefully we can get through the season without losing too many players to injury," Treloar said.
Though several of the major injuries suffered by players were cases of bad luck, Treloar intends to highlight fitness leading into 2020.
"I think it's previous injuries that are causing issues. It's making sure people are doing the right physio training and making sure they're not rushing back," he said.
"I was big on that last year, making sure they're not playing if they're not ready.
"What comes first is their health and fitness, that's bigger than anything in my eyes."
The Swans will likely begin pre-season training in a couple of weeks time, and should Treloar be locked in for the job, he hopes the focus on fitness will help the team become more consistent.
"Our main goal as a club this year is to have a real consistent team," Treloar said.
"We want to turn it into a really good finals series and have a good home and away as well."
The home and away statistics for the Swans in past seasons have been mixed. While they are traditionally strong at home, where they consider Goodhew Park somewhat of a fortress, they have struggled on the road.
This, Treloar said, is due in part to the drop in numbers when the team travels away. He hopes the Swans can amend this discrepancy by increasing their player numbers in 2020.
"I think we've got a lot of people on the fringe of playing who are [close to] playing, but having that culture where anyone's welcome to have a go and learn the sport [has helped]," he said.
