The couple, who will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on August 12, was married in the Uniting Church on the corner of Goldsmith and Bourke Streets in 1950.
After their wedding, they travelled to Sydney for their honeymoon which was spent at Clifton Gardens.
Jean Hemingway shares the secret of their long and happy married life.
"It's love, optimism, and patience. We have each other, children, grandchildren and good luck," she said.
They have four children - Sue Ryan, Kim Poll, Peter Hemingway, and David Hemingway (deceased) and 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild on the way.
George Hemingway was born in Glen Innis in 1929 and moved to Goulburn in 1940 where his father worked on the railway.
"On our first date, we went to see a movie at the old Odeon Theatre and the ceiling looked like the night sky," he said.
To celebrate the joyous occasion, the family had plans for big gathering but they were put on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Instead of the big celebrations initially planned, they had a quiet lunchtime celebration in the city with their children on the weekend.
A daughter, who is a resident in the Masonic Retirement Village, and grand children living on the Central Coast weren't able to join them as a safety precaution.
The couple lives at the Masonic Retirement Village in the city.
Their daughter Kim Poll said that her parents have been involved in community activities like Masonic Lodge, Goulburn Chapter, and Probus for years.
"This allowed them to form many friendships and they enjoyed their social activities," she said.
