Marulan's former cricket club is preparing a comeback in the 2020/21 season, following a concerted effort from new president, Rob Collins, to rebuild more than ten years after its last season.
The Mad Bulls senior side played its last match in 2009/10, while the juniors continued on for a couple more years, but Collins said there is a strong desire from locals to see the cricket pitch put to good use once again.
"We're starting to get a following, we've got about ten players invested for the seniors, and we've got four or five juniors ready to go," Collins said.
"A couple of past players have said it'd be great to see the Mad Bulls back again.
"In Marulan, people like to come and watch the cricket, and there's a good community spirit. We've already got four or five sponsors and we're not even established yet."
The club is looking to bring back both its senior and junior teams, which Collins hopes will give the club some continuity in the years to come.
"That way, at least the kids have a direct route to go through from juniors to seniors," Collins said.
With almost all of the organisational rigmarole done, the only step remaining for the Mad Bulls is to secure enough players.
"We just need players," Collins said. "The more the better, in the seniors and juniors. Pretty much everything else is taken care of."
Should they successfully recruit enough players, the Mad Bulls hope they might even host some home games in their first season back.
The Marulan cricket field is "going to waste" Collins said, and he hopes that the club can make a social day of any potential home games to try and stir up some passion for cricket in town once again.
The turf wicket on the oval, Collins expects, will take at least a year to get to playing standard, but he said games could be played on the synthetic pitch in the meantime.
Registration will cost $50 for seniors in the 2020/21 season, and $100 for juniors, who are free to use the Active Kids voucher to cover the expense.
Collins also thanked Cricket ACT for its support in re-establishing the club.
"Cricket ACT have been awesome, whenever I call them they help however they can," he said.
"Michael Minns [Cricket manager for the Southern Inland NSW region] has come down and had a look around, and helped us apply for grants."
