The bushfire season is almost upon us here in the Southern Tablelands Zone, although starting early again in northern NSW. Are you ready for the new season? Hazard reduction started? Fire plan ready? Does your family know what to do, what to take, when to leave, what to do with your pets and animals?
Towrang Brigade will be holding the annual Get Ready Day on Saturday, September 19 from 10am-4pm for you to come along to the Fire Station, 498 Towrang Road and get some information, including how to become a member and do your basic fire training. Kids are welcome to come along, the trucks will be out on display - and everyone loves a fire truck.
At the same time we will also be holding our belated 2019/20 fire season barbecue thank you lunch which was cancelled earlier in the year due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
Brigade news
Training sessions are continuing. Some of our members have attended helicopter safety, grass fire and convoy firefighting training, as well as taking the trucks out on regular maintenance runs.
The 2020/21 bushfire season officially commences on Thursday, October 1. After this date, you will be required to obtain a permit in order to do any further hazard reduction. This leaves three or four weeks to get stuck in and do your burning off, allowing for the rain to disperse and things to dry off. In the meantime, there is still plenty of time to continue burning off those windrows, leaves and bark. Don't forget to ring Yass Fire Control on 6226 3100, contact the duty phone before lighting up on 0438 298 271 and have water available in case of an emergency.
Towrang Tavern
A small group at our Tavern night July and August, so we shall continue, month by month.
The next night will be Friday, September 25 from 6.30pm, $2 donation to assist with power and gas expenses. It would be appreciated if you could RSVP attendance numbers to phone (4829 8236) or email (towrangnoticeboard@yahoo.com.au) to ensure safe social distancing.

At this stage, the Community Christmas Party will still be held on Saturday, December 12. We will keep all fingers and toes crossed that there will not be too many restrictions on numbers attending, but will keep everyone advised.
