A man has suffered a fractured skull after what police alleged was a carjacking at Marulan on Wednesday night.
The incident, which started at a service centre near the town, also involved a police pursuit along the Hume Highway.
Police said that at 11pm Wednesday, a 33-year-old man and a friend attended the service station on the Hume Highway at Marulan to meet with a third man, aged 22, in relation to the potential sale of a BMW M3.
During the inspection, the 22-year-old man sat in the driver's seat. Police alleged he reversed the car at speed with the driver's door open, striking the vehicle owner and flinging him about 20 metres away, knocking him unconscious.
The younger man was seen to drive the BMW north on the Hume Highway and emergency services were contacted.
NSW Ambulance paramedics took the vehicle's owner, a 33-year-old man to Goulburn Base Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition being treated for a fractured skull.
Officers from The Hume Police District circulated a description of the vehicle over the police radio and about 12.15am Thursday, officers noticed the stolen vehicle travelling north on the Hume Highway near Campbelltown.
Officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command initiated a pursuit but terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, PolAir advised that the vehicle had pulled into a rest stop on the Hume Highway, Casula, and had parked near a truck.
PolAir directed police on the ground to the location and the 22-year-old man was arrested.
He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station, where he was charged with aggravated assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle - inflict actual bodily harm and police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed.
The Granville man has been refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Thursday, December 24.
Police have seized the BMW for forensic examination and investigations are continuing.
