"This is us taking a deliberate step to break away from the earlier perception of the chamber to the reality that it is a young, vibrant organisation that wants to make things better and contribute to the success of the Goulburn community," he said.
"What Business Australia plans to do will be far more than what the Chamber of Commerce used to do. We will get involved with more community events and issues that affect all the businesses in town and not just the ones that are chamber members."
Mr Weekes further said that each individual chamber has control in their rebranding and Goulburn Chamber of Commerce chose not to do that in 2020.
"However, we are going ahead with it this year and the new branding will be made in a couple of months. It will be Goulburn Chamber of Commerce 2.1. A new membership program will also be rolled out at the time and we will implement business basket that will provide new members with services that will help build their businesses," he said.
The work on building a new website as part of the new branding is also in progress. It will provide information that includes details of various projects that Business Australia will be involved in.
There are plans to reintroduce annual business awards with winners voted by people in Goulburn this year.
"These new initiatives from our end will be introduced to support businesses in Goulburn and our new branding will reflect that approach," Mr Weekes said.
Mr Weekes was elected unopposed as the president on September 9 at their Annual General Meeting for 2020-21. He took over from the outgoing president Mark Bradbury who has been in the role for the last three and a half years. Mr Bradbury will continue to be a part of the chamber as a vice president.
