Local cricket lovers who miss the weekly action of the local competition will have one more chance to sate their appetites this weekend, when the Goulburn District Cricket Association hosts a T20 Knockout on Saturday at Seiffert Oval.
Four teams are scheduled to participate, with three locals - Hibo, the Astor Rats, and the Tatts Stags - with a Robertson team expected to drive down from the Southern Highlands.
GDCA president, Shane Munroe, said the idea for the tournament was derived through a phone call from the Robertson Cricket Club.
"It was actually an idea from a fella named Dean Roxburgh who plays in the Highlands comp," Munroe said.
"We've had a lot of interest from around the area after they saw that we play under lights. It's drummed up a lot of business, and we're hoping to get more out of town club and players involved."
Three matches will be played throughout the day, starting with a clash between the Rats and Hibo at 10am.
This will be followed by a match between Robertson and the Tatts Stags at 2pm, and the final will take place from 6pm under lights.
Though Munroe is unsure what to expect from Robertson, they are coming off a grand final win in the Southern Highlands First Grade competition and are expected to be a strong side.
The Rats (for whom Munroe plays), meanwhile, are eager to get back on the park.
"We were asked, and we said 'yeah, why not?'," Munroe said.
"Hibo and the Tatts were in the grand final of First Grade, so we'd like to test ourselves against them again. That's why we jumped at the chance."
With the Stags and Hibo also expected to put forward strong teams, the competition should be competitive. The focus for Munroe, though, will be having fun.
"That's the main objective, to have a bit of fun," he said.
"We might run a bit of a barbecue up there and try to get a bit of a crowd. Everybody I speak to around town knows about it, so hopefully we can get a good crowd up there."
From a bureaucratic perspective, the competition is further evidence that the numerous upgrades to Seiffert Oval in recent years, (including new lighting, grandstand improvements, and a new pavilion) have paid off.
"That was the whole idea at the start of the season, was trying to get more teams involved and get Goulburn cricket built back up," Munroe said.
