Being elected president of the Goulburn Chamber of Commerce in September 2020 was a privilege, and it is an absolute honour to serve the local business community of Goulburn.

Like every vibrant community, Goulburn has a number of "beating hearts".
This includes our wonderful community groups, clubs, schools, shopping districts, festivals and shows, places of worship, pubs and yes, even our council, just to name a few.
All of these "beating hearts" are critical pieces in the local landscape, binding us together and keeping us strong.
Commerce is one of the "beating hearts" of a community.
A strong business community means strong employment, strong wages, opportunities for school leavers, and support for clubs and community groups.
So, I see the chamber's role as not only representing, advocating, supporting and promoting the interests of chamber members, but the interests of all businesses in Goulburn.
Because everyone benefits if we keep local business strong.
This is why the chamber, in conjunction with Goulburn Mulwaree Council and the RDASI, has recently launched a local gift card.
The Shop2580 gift card works just like any other gift card from a major retail chain, but with one important difference - it keeps your money local because you can only spend them in local stores.
You can buy a Shop2580 gift card for a birthday, anniversary, or even a baby shower.
They are also fantastic as employee rewards because they keep the money in local business - the same businesses that support local community groups, clubs, schools, and sporting teams.
An interesting fact: research tells us that for every $100 spent with local businesses, there is a $180 flow on effect in the community.
The Shop2580 gift card is only one of several initiatives the Chamber has launched in recent years, all aimed at helping local businesses grow and stay strong.
I'll be writing a regular column, so if you would like to raise an issue or comment, I'd love to hear from you.
