Seven students have started working with their mentors at the Goulburn Mulwaree Library to develop and write their stage plays in their own individual style.
Library Manager Erin Williams said the students will continue to work with their mentors over the course of eight weeks.
"We have had one fantastic group workshop, with members of the Lieder Theatre Company joining us to talk all about writing plays and performing on stage, and the young writers are currently half way through their mentoring sessions, which will be completed at the end of July," she said.
The gala performances of the plays are scheduled to take place at the Lieder Theatre on September 10, 11, and 15 with a special performance on September 18 for the visiting members of the NSW Youth Council Conference which is being held in Goulburn.
"Although the plays are not yet finished, we already know we've got an amazing group of young writers this year, brimming with fantastic ideas. We're looking forward to seeing an incredible variety of writing, full of humour and excitement this year," Miss Williams said.
"Mighty Playwrights is now an annual program. We intend to work with half of the schools in the region in one year, and the other half in the following year, and to alternate the schools each year from then on in."
