Magistrate Geraldine Beattie presented to the court that on April 31, 2021 the offender had ignored a police direction to stop and headed back to Goulburn at speed before a pursuit ensued.
She said police had observed him travelling 118km/h in a 60km/h zone and then 100km/h in a 50km/h residential area.
Magistrate Beattie told the court the man's son was in the vehicle at the time of the offence.
"You put his life at very significant risk at such high speeds," she said.
She said the man was disqualified from driving until 2026 at the time. She told the court that upon his arrest he was "emotionally upset and wouldn't speak to police".
Solicitor Matthew Adam argued his client was prescribed lithium for mental health issues and had stopped taking his medication at the time of the offence.
The magistrate accepted the man was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and "mental health clearly impacted on [his] situation that night".
"When you stopped taking lithium this is what happened," she said.
The man was sentenced to 18 months in jail with a non-parole period of nine months. He was disqualified from driving for a further two years.
