What started as a group of newbie musicians a few years ago has turned into a class act.
M Funk, Mulwaree High School's longstanding band, continues to shine with talent.
They have made it through to the finals of the statewide band competition, Surround Sound.
The band, consisting of nine senior students, submitted an audition video performing Sunday Morning by No Doubt to the competition in early June and were announced as finalists last week after successfully being shortlisted.
M Funk's music teacher John Russell was amazed with the progress made by the band compared to their early days.
"I am very proud of the band and their achievements," Mr Russell said.
"What started out as a group of year 7 and 8 beginner musicians has quickly turned into an ensemble of seasoned performers who like to engage the audience with their upbeat and energetic song choices."
The performance for the finals held in term four will have to last for 12 minutes.
The band currently meets twice a week in preparation for the finals which will be held in Sydney at the School Spectacular in front of a live audience and panel of judges.
The band members will be lucky enough to work with assigned industry specialists who will go to the school to help with fine tuning their performance
Only eight other bands across the state have made it to this level, including bands from places such as Byron bay and the Central West of NSW.
