The frustration of local cricketers was tangible at roughly 11am, after the Goulburn District Cricket Association announced on Facebook that the consistent rain overnight and early this morning forced the cancellation of all fixtures.
The decision was made due to "weather and safety" concerns, the GDCA said, which then thanked the volunteers who prepare the local wickets every week.
"I'd like to thank all the guys that take 10-12 hours out of their week to prepare these turf pitches and to have this happen on a Saturday morning," the post read.
"I can tell u there's no group more frustrated than those guys."
After four weeks of the 2021/22 season, just two rounds of cricket has been played, both of which were also impacted by forfeits and cancelled games.
Misfortune has reigned supreme thus far in 2021, and today's fixtures are a particularly big loss as they featured some interesting clashes, particularly the one scheduled between the Coolavin and Marulan.
Seiffert Oval, originally slated to host more than 15 matches under lights this season, is yet to see a game played on its pitch due to the consistently poor weather.
With steady rainfall forecast for much of the next week, it appears unlikely that next Saturday's day/night clash between the Astor Rats and Crookwell at the ground will go ahead either.
However, should reality differ from the predictions and next weekend provide playable conditions, there are some great fixtures for both players and fans to enjoy.
They will take place as follows on Saturday, November 27:
First Grade
- Coolavin vs MBK United at Prell Oval from 1pm
- Astor Rats vs Crookwell at Seiffert Oval from 3.20pm
Second Grade
- Hibo Green vs Hibo Gold at Carr Confoy 3 from 1pm
- Gordon Goats vs Knight Riders at Carr Confoy 2 from 1pm
- Tatts Stags vs Marulan at Marulan Cricket Fields from 1pm
With just four rounds remaining until the Christmas break, it is still extremely unclear in either division which teams are likely to sit on top of the ladder for the duration of the season.
The representative fixtures are also set to get underway in just a few weeks' time, with the first Burns Cup fixture set for Sunday, December 12 in Yass.
