The brother, 65, of Mulgoa, was accompanied by a colleague as he faced two charges of sexual assault (category 4)/indecent assault of a person under his authority. He did not enter a plea.
It was Curtin’s first court appearance after Goulburn police charged him on Monday, February 6, when he presented himself at the station. They alleged that Curtin sexually/indecently assaulted two boys aged 13 and 14 between March and December, 1986 at the former St Patrick’s College in Goulburn. Curtin was a teacher and dormitory master at the school at the time.
In a brief mention on Wednesday, solicitor Angela Skocic sought brief service orders and an adjournment. Magistrate Geraldine Beattie ordered a brief of evidence to be served by April 19 and a reply by May 10. The matter was adjourned to May 10 at the same court.
Ms Skocic asked that her client be excused from attending on that date if legally represented. She explained that he lived in Sydney.
Curtin left the court immediately after, climbing into a car driven by his colleague.
He is the fourth Christian Brother who taught at St Patrick’s College to be charged under Strikeforce Charish, formed to investigate allegations of child indecent and sexual assault at the school.
