They are usually representatives from various sides of politics and the discuss locally relevant topics in a hotel.
However, this month’s Politics in the Pub promises to be a bit different – involving students from local high schools.
The one-off event will haves its focus on young people, their issues and views and a panel of students will answer questions and discuss what emerges on the night.
Some of the suggested discussion topics on the night may include:
- education - here, now and in the future
- politics - what young people think of politicians, our political parties and processes
- society- what motivates/scares young people
- the environment
- mental Health needs and services, and
- food security.
A spokesperson for the event, Helen Rainger said the intention of the night is to have young people participating in a discussion on issues and policies concerning our society at the moment.
She said the event promised to give an insight into what topics young people are interested in and passionate about.
“The panel will include student representatives from Goulburn secondary schools: two from each school, from years 10, 11 or 12,” Mrs Rainger said.
“Other students will be in the audience and be part of the discussion.”
The night is being held in the Chisholm Room of the Goulburn Soldiers’ Club on Monday August 20, frmo 6.30 to 8pm.
