As the smoky conditions continue to be a source of concern, vets have recommended that horses should not be ridden or worked at this time, the organisers have said.
"We love our community show. It wasn't an easy decision to cancel the show this year. We have got some rain and looking forward to more, but the fires are still burning and smoke conditions may return," Wayne Baynham, president of Tarago and District Show Society, said.

The sheep are also affected by the smoky weather conditions.
"The smoke and soot from the fires has adversely affected the sheep that were to be brought to the show for the shearing competitions. The wool is dirty and full of contaminants with not much of a chance that they would get to clean between now and the show date," Mr Baynham added.
"Nor would it be right to expect the competitors to shear or ride in the potentially smoke laden air. It's not fair for the dogs to compete in the dog show in these smoky conditions."
He added that committee members and volunteers of the show are involved with the local RFS Brigades, SES or other agencies and/or have concerns about their own or family and friends safety and the protection of properties.
"Our concern is for all those that may have attended. Our family based event attracts children and older family members alike. They attend to enjoy a day out to socialise and view the various events, displays and enjoy the exhibits in the pavilion," he said.
Meanwhile, the annual community event Goulburn Show is also going ahead as planned and will be held on March 7-8.
It will include entertainment like music, comedy magic show, dog high jump, animal exhibits, sheep wool display, brewing and wine show, woodchop, hand spinning and weaving demonstrations.
The first Goulburn show was held in 1880.
