The annual fixture draws dozens of players from across NSW to Goulburn for two days of high-level competition.
Due to COVID-19, the Goulburn Table Tennis Club was one of many sporting organisations to cease operations for several months. Due to this lack of play across the state, the GTTC has received huge interest in the upcoming competition.
Scheduled for the weekend of October 31, club treasurer Nicola Fraser said the club has had to consider a wide range of options to accommodate increased competitor numbers.
"We've had a big uptake of teams wanting to play," Fraser said.
"It's an invitational, so we had sent out invites to regional areas, and in previous years we haven't had a full uptake of people and had to put in a few more Goulburn teams.
"But this year, we'll be struggling to find the room to fit a Goulburn team in. It's been a great success with teams nominating, we've got to the point where we may have to increase the teams in a division or we might have to limit the number of teams coming from each club.
"It's been a good problem to have so to speak. It's because the table tennis has been so limited as far as other competitions that have been cancelled, it seems that everybody is very keen to come to Goulburn. That brings accommodation and retail and money coming into town."
With so many players expected to come, the club will have to balance a hectic schedule with the COVID-19 health restrictions which are still in place.
"We have to comply with our COVID plan, which means that a lot of the competitors will sit outside when they're not playing," Fraser said.
"But we will have one of the tables out so that'll increase the floor space for competitors to sit and watch one of the matches. Our floor space allows us to run the tournament, but it means we won't have as many spectators as normal."
The competition will run with two divisions, with eight teams expected in each division. It will be play in a round robin format with finals expected to take place early on the Sunday afternoon.
Though there will be fewer Goulburn teams than normal in the competitions, Foster expects them to perform strongly.
"In division one, we've got quite a strong team," she said.
"We possibly will only have two teams in division one, or even only one team. They will have a hard time, there will be some strong competition ... We'll hopefully be up there but we might not necessarily be in second place.
"The team who won last year isn't the same team coming to defend, so that'll be interesting. Our division two teams will have a lot of strong competition as well."
