Goulburn MP Wendy Tuckerman said the $99,999 in funding, granted under the Government's Floodplain Management Program. would help the council better understand and manage local flood levels, risk and exposure in the community.
"I congratulate Goulburn Mulwaree Council on successfully securing funding for the review and update of Marulan Flood Study and Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan which will help to keep the Marulan community safe from floods," she said.
"This funding will enable council to get the ball rolling on stages one and two of this critical flood planning, including analysis of past floods."
Mayor Bob Kirk said the money was very welcome.
"We are now able to get on with this critical study which will aid us in better understanding the risks involved with floods in Marulan", he said.
"We are then able to prepare for and manage these risks accordingly. We have already received funding previously through this program to undertake a Floodplain Management Program for Goulburn which has been quite successful, and I look forward to getting this underway for Marulan.
It is one of 25 projects across the state to receive funding in the 2020-21 grant round.
Environment Minister Matt Kean said the government had supported councils with $53.9 million to complete local projects.
The grants assist with flood studies and flood risk management studies, as well as the implementation of works to reduce flood risk such as flood levees, flood gates, warning systems, house raising or purchase in high risk areas.
