That is the message Goulburn Officer in Charge Inspector Matthew Hinton wants motorists to remember this holiday season.
Officers from Highway Traffic Patrol, The Hume Police District and representatives from Goulburn Mulwaree Council were on hand to have a chat with passing motorists at Marulan BP Northbound.
Road Safety Traffic officer from Goulburn Mulwaree Council Tracy Norberg said the message for motorists was don't trust your tired self.
Inspector Hinton said there had been a significant amount of road trauma on the backroads and on the highway with high speed collisions.
"This year was hard for everyone isolated from family and friends," he said.
"We know people will travel on the road networks this holiday period and we urge motorists to drive safely and not to let small distractions or bad decisions end in tragic consequences."
In 2020, 13 people lost their lives on the Hume roads.
In the Christmas and holiday period last year, one person died on December 20, 2020 in Grabben Gullen, a pedestrian died in Mittagong and a cyclist died in Goulburn.
Traffic South Traffic and Highway Patrol Command have launched Strike Force Summer Safe in response to the expected increase in visitor numbers to the South Coast and regional areas over the Summer period.
Police will be targeting The Four Ds: drink and drug driving, distraction offences and dangerous driving, along with speeding and antisocial behaviour on our roads.
