NOW that works have nearly finished on Bourke St, these are some of my observations:

1) There are no turning lanes near busy intersections such as Verner St and Montague St. Combined with cars reversing from 450 parking places, this will slow traffic, and make it more difficult for cars crossing from Verner St, or turning across traffic from Montague St.
2) Reversing from many 450 parking places into oncoming traffic is just dangerous: I will actively avoid much of the 450 parking places along Bourke St between Clinton St and Bradley St. So, I suspect, will others and Church St residents could see more non-resident parking and street use.
3) Traffic will quite possibly be slower than previously, because of reduced lane size from the median strips and the 450 parking places.
4) In summer the trees will create some shade, but will need regular pruning to not interfere with cars, vans and trucks. Pruning operations will also affect traffic flow. [Editor, note the use of "affect" rather than the lazy, verbose, inelegant and odious "impact on".]
In short, I'm not convinced the effects of this project were fully investigated by the council before the plan was implemented.
