Coordinator of Languages at Trinity Catholic College Anka Allen said Trinity students had participated in the Language Perfect NSW Championships.
This is an on-line competition requiring students to learn vocabulary.
“Students can choose to participate in reading, writing or listening activities, but most students choose to participate in all three,” Mrs Allen said.
“Trinity was placed first in NSW for the 101- 250 students category out of 109 schools.
She said there were two Elite Winners at Trinity, with scores of over 10,000 points in the competition.
“Ellie Stevens (Year 9) and Sam North (Year 8) were champions for their chosen language, which was German. They are continuing a proud tradition at the College of exemplary results in German,” she said.
Ellie Stevens was placed first in German in NSW and placed third overall in NSW. This result includes all languages studied in NSW by all competing schools. This time there were 14 languages including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.
Sam North was fourth in German in NSW.
“The Year 8 German class (Semester 2) was the winner of the $100 Pizza party for the top class in NSW, which was was based on the highest average score per student,” she said.
“Special mention goes to Haldyn Boyce, who received an Emerald Award. High scores were also achieved by Teal Wattke, Oscar Booth and Lillian Turgeon.”
There are 121 students of languages enrolled at the college.
Ms Allen commended the students for their dedication and willingness to embrace the study of another language.
On the Education Perfect Webpage, students are given an opportunity to comment on Language Perfect.
Some of the student’s comments are as follows:
Teal Wattke: “I love all of the competitions that Language Perfect holds. It not only helps kids learn new languages, but it brings people together. LP is a great resource for learning things even without being in the classroom with a teacher and other students.”
Lillian Turgeon: ‘It is SUPER interactive and has an easy way of learning that sticks in your head and makes it easier to apply the knowledge.’
Charles Moroney: ‘I like Education Perfect because it is fun.’
