Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Bob Kirk and deputy Peter Walker attended the opening of the special new space for the students.
School administrative manager Julie Burton said mother of two current students, Lee Lewis, put forward the idea in light of Autism Awareness and the benefits of having such a space for students.
"The Teapot Club donated a friendship bench that has settled nicely into this space. Further additions such as wind chimes will be added to this space to further improve the sensory experience," Ms Burton said.
Sam Tabner Landscaping designed and constructed the garden and the funds came from both a NSW Government Health grant and school funds.
"This welcome addition to the playground is already being used by the 37 students currently enrolled at the school. The garden also enhances the quality teaching and learning programs at the school," Ms Burton said.
The afternoon culminated with a light meal provided by school staff.
