Southern Tablelands Rail Users Group (STRUG) members met with Hugh Cavill, the advisor to Regional Transport Minister Paul Toole, and delivered a submission.
It covered a range of issues.
STRUG president Greg Price said they still thought tilt trains would provide the best service for regional NSW into the future.
"We asked Minister Toole to support a variation in the diesel train contract to support tilt trains," Mr Price said.
"We still support track upgrades, but we realise this may take decades to achieve, whereas these trains will provide immediate improvements in travel times."

He said fellow member John Proctor had compiled a spreadsheet that compared the 1995 Swedish Tilt Train trial against the current timetables for Xplorer services and the 1995 trial showed a 20 per cent reduction in journey time over the current timetable.
"With a full set of tilt trains, you should get 25pc reductions," Mr Price said.
"Talgo, a Spanish company that makes tilt trains, calculated their trains would do the trip from Sydney to Canberra in 2 hours 55 mins and 2 hours to Goulburn.
"That refutes the information that has been coming out of the Transport Minister's office over the past year that there is no time-saving in using tilt trains without track upgrading."
STRUG also does not believe the State Government is buying enough trains under the new diesel contract.
"There are 12 sets of trains currently running services across NSW and they are only ordering 10 to run the inter-city contracts in the new contract, so we are two sets short," Mr Price said.
A total of 29 new trains will be purchased, with 10 Endeavour train replacements, nine Xplorers and 10 XPT's.
Mr Price also said the current trains could provide additional services to Goulburn while the new trains were being introduced.
"We asked the minister to retain the Xplorer and Endeavour cars while the new trains were being introduced to provide additional regional services until enough new trains are purchased," he said.
"This may be the way we get an hourly service out of Goulburn?
"Also, there is a train that sits at Moss Vale all day.
"We have asked the Minister if this train could be used for a shuttle service between Moss Vale and Goulburn.
"We also asked for the Christmas timetable to operate year-round.
"This is because it would mean an extra Opal service would leave Goulburn at about 8.20am."
