Passing motorists alerted emergency services at 5.30am that the vehicle was well alight on Range Road, just short of Rossi Bridge, about 1.6km from Goulburn.
Senior Constable Peter Karooz said fire services extinguished the blaze in the 2019 Toyota Corolla soon after. The road was temporarily blocked as a result.
No one was inside the car at the time.
The vehicle had been parked on the side of the road, facing towards the bridge.
Police believe the fire was deliberately lit.
Their investigations have revealed the car was a rental owned by Hertz Australia. It was reported stolen from Goulburn after the car fire.
Senior Constable Karooz said no one was seen around the vehicle at the time of the blaze.
Investigations are ongoing.
