David Macale has pleaded not guilty to a series of traffic offences related to a high-speed pursuit on Sunday.
The 35-year-old, from Mudaring, Western Australia, appeared in Goulburn Local Court on Monday morning charged with exceed speed more than 30km/h; police pursuit not stop; exceed speed by more than 45km/h; drive recklessly, furiously and in a manner dangerous; and drive while suspended.
Magistrate Geraldine Beattie refused him bail and adjourned the matter to the same court on April 8.
Update Monday, March 9 noon
A West Australian man will appear in Goulburn Local Court today charged over Sunday's police pursuit.
Police said they first detected the man's Holden ute speeding on the Federal Highway at Collector at about 9.30am.
They will allege his vehicle reached speeds of up to 150km/h in the northbound lane.
When he failed to stop at police direction, Highway Patrol officers commenced a pursuit but later terminated it due to what police said was the speed and manner of driving.
They caught up with him at the Caltex Tarago service station about 45 minutes later where the man and his female passenger had pulled in to fill up with petrol.
Residents told The Post that police had the man pinned down on the ground and there was a great deal of screaming.
They arrested and charged the driver, a West Australian man, with exceed speed more than 30km/h; police pursuit not stop; exceed speed by more than 45km/h; drive recklessly, furiously and in a manner dangerous; and drive while suspended.
He was refused bail by police to appear in Goulburn Local Court on Monday.
His female passenger was not charged. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Sunday, March 8, 4.50pm
A male driver has been arrested following a high speed pursuit northbound on the Federal Highway on Sunday, March 8.
Police say at about 9.30am, an adult male driver was detected speeding at Collector and was arrested a short time later at the Tarago Caltex petrol station after the pursuit.
There was also a female passenger in the vehicle at the time.
