Former political and media figures Cathy McGowan and Kerry O'Brien are set to headline a 'democracy forum' in support of independent Hume candidate Penny Ackery.
Ms McGowan held the federal seat of Indi in Victoria from 2013 to 2019 after defeating Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella.
People will recognise Mr O'Brien from his long career in media, most notably helming the ABC's flagship political program, 7:30.
In a statement in support of the event, Ms Ackery said she hoped to make the seat of Hume marginal when running against incumbent member Angus Taylor.
"I want greater investment in our electorate," she said.
"This seat has been in Liberal hands for over two decades. They don't invest in our seat because they consider it a 'safe seat', which means they will win it every time.
"We need to make this seat marginal in order to get more investment like better phone and internet, roads, schools and hospitals."
The event is open to the public and entry just requires a donation either on the door or via Penny Ackery's website.
