Grants of $500 to assist local families with costs for talented junior sportspeople are now available for 2018.

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said Round 3 applications of the Local Sporting Champions program are open.

“This program assists with travel and accommodation, fees, equipment or any expenses associated with  higher level training or competition,” Mr Taylor said.

The Local Sporting Champions Program is for young people aged 12-18 who compete at a state, national or international level and who need to travel more than 250km (return) to participate.

Successful, applicants receive a $500 grant that can be used toward the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment, coaching or officiating at an official endorsed state, national or international sporting championship. Applications close February 28, 2018.
