This event will be the first Fight Night held by the PCYC for a long time, and event organiser Robert Scott Jr said that the support from the town in the lead up has shocked him.
“It’s been very good, very, very good,” he said. “We’ve been blown away by the support of the locals.”
The Fight Night will feature 20 bouts, with seven local fighters making their debuts.
Jayden Ralph, Ben Freebody, Draven Breeze, Sam Brooker, Taylor Oag, Harrison Cummins, and Evan Gorringe will all step into the ring for the first time.
Scott said he would likely get emotional watching bouts and that it would be “pretty special” to see.
“I’m ecstatic, because we’ve got some boys who have been boxing here for a couple of years now who are having their first fight,” he said.
“We’ve actually seen them grow up, and it’ll be a bit of an exciting and emotional night.
“Hopefully we get a few wins on the night.”
Goulburn locals Nick O’Flynn and Paul Zucchetto might also fight on the night, if suitable opponents can be found, and Scott said that their fights will also be ones to watch.
Nick O’Flynn is “having his first fight at 51,” Scott said. “And lastly, we’ve got our PCYC staff member, Paul Zucchetto.”
Boxing as a sport has a long history with the PCYC, and Scott explained how that history tied into the decision to hold the fundraiser.
“Boxing is synonymous with PCYC. We’re the biggest provider of boxing in NSW,
“We use it in a various number of ways and programs, and we thought it was time to have a Fight Night.”
The initial support for the event, Scott said, is typical of Goulburn, and he believes it is a result of the strong sense of community in the town.
“I think Goulburn is a very tight-knit community that likes to help out charities,” he said.
The night will begin at 6pm at the Goulburn Workers Club. Tickets are $20 apiece for anyone over 10 years old. All corporate tables have been sold out.
