They're learning about horticulture and expanding their knowledge
- Helen Morgan
President Helen Morgan said the open day would showcase the organisation's programs, aimed at providing opportunities through horticulture for social and workplace participation for people with a disability or social disadvantage.
"In the five years since Growing Abilities Goulburn was officially launched, we have had a number of very special participants come through our programs, who have learnt some important horticultural skills," Mrs Morgan said.
"Growing Abilities promotes choice and empowerment. We do this by providing education and training, by developing vocational and social skills for our participants.
"For some, they're learning about horticulture and expanding their knowledge - for others, it's a chance to spend time with our horticulturist in the garden just having a chat.
"The open day this Saturday is a chance for the public to come out to our site and learn about what we do, and also to see the range of plants that we can grow to order."
Mrs Morgan said Growing Abilities Goulburn has been increasing its public profile, holding regular stalls at the Goulburn Rotary Markets, and displays at the recent Goulburn Show.
"We are very grateful for the fantastic support we receive from Goulburn's gardening public, who take the time to visit our stalls and find out more about what we do," she said.
"The income generated from the plant sales at our market stalls allows us to continues these programs, so if you have purchased any plants from us, thank you.
"If you haven't purchased anything from us, but would like to learn more about the range of plants and vegetables we can grow for you, then we'd love to see you there on Saturday. Similarly, if you are interested in volunteering with Growing Abilities and sharing your green thumb with our participants, come along and say hello."
Mrs Morgan thanked Goulburn Mulwaree Council, Goulburn's three Rotary Clubs, Lions Club of Goulburn City and Goulburn Soroptimists for their ongoing support. See the Growing Abilities Goulburn Facebook page for more info.
