Officers were called to Mulwaree High School on Wednesday afternoon. While not naming the institution, police said they attended a local high school and seized the replica gun from a student's bag.

"The student and his parents were spoken to by police, and it was determined there was no criminal intent. There will be no further police action," a spokeswoman said.

Inspector Matt Hinton said the principal had acted swiftly after another person notified authorities upon seeing what appeared to be a gun in the bag.

"Parents needed to be mindful that if a replica resembles a real firearm, it is classified as such and police will deal with it as a real firearm," he said.

The student did not brandish the replica, which was understood to have been imported.

Also on Wednesday afternoon, police and ambulance were called to reports of students fighting at Goulburn High School.

Inspector Hinton said a teacher who intervened was accidentally struck in the stomach. The Goulburn Post understands she was pregnant. Paramedics were on hand but police said the woman was not injured and did not wish to take the matter further. An ambulance media spokesman said a person was also struck in the head but did not require hospitalisation.

The Department of Education said it had zero tolerance for any anti-social behaviour.

"Goulburn schools are running successful programs around anti-social behaviour to support students and their return to face to face learning," a spokeswoman said.

"Students who engage in anti-social behaviour are disciplined according to their school's disciplinary policy. Support is also provided to students and staff affected.

"Police are also involved when required and schools have good relationships with their local police."
