The Goulburn Branch of NSW Farmers recently held its annual general meeting, which featured a discussion with local Rural Crime Investigators Alison Fitzpatrick and Dale Croker, who emphasised the need for people to report any rural crime, even if only relatively minor.

Members were told that things such as trespass, illegal shooting, biosecurity breaches and theft (even if only suspected) should be reported as soon as possible to enable follow-up and any emerging patterns to be identified. The police recommended farmers lock their gates and put relevant signage and security cameras in place.

During the AGM, Margaret Cameron (chair), Stan Moore (deputy chair) and Noel Lawton (Hon secretary/treasurer) were re-elected unopposed.
The NSW Farmers annual conference will again be held in Sydney this year, from July 19 to 21. Delegates will be Margaret Cameron, Stan Moore and Nerida Cullen, with Andy Divall and Ron Cullen as alternates.
One of the topics that will be raised by the Goulburn Branch delegates will be the need to promote more consumer awareness of what is in their food, especially when it comes to products appearing to be labelled as meat, which in actual fact contain meat substitutes.

The branch voted to continue to support rural education with annual scholarships to local ANU Medical students and TAFE wool and agriculture students, together with sponsorship of the Young Farmer Challenge at the annual Goulburn Show. Members are also looking at ways to get more young people involved in the branch.
Proponents of the proposed large-scale solar installation at Gundary, which is to be located on prime agricultural land, presented information and answered questions via a video call during the meeting. A number of concerns were raised by members, especially those with nearby properties which would be impacted in various ways.
Some other areas of concern for local members and the community were the proposed new Transgrid Power lines and potential for toxic emissions from the Woodlawn Waste to Energy Plant.
