Last Saturday the Gunning Roos defeated Crookwell 28–10, moving to 4th place in the Bidgee region. This Saturday at Harden they will face off against the Bungendore Tigers, a formidable pack.

Asked about their previous encounter with the Tigers, Roos Club President Ian Blackburn said “They thumped us then but we can beat them. We are a much better team now than earlier in the season.”
The Gunning Rooettes went down to Boomanulla last Saturday but the players and their supporters are to be congratulated on a terrific fund raising effort of $7000 to support breast and ovarian cancer.
As Harden is just over an hour away, why not head over to cheer on the Roos and keep the dream alive.
DOG ATTACKS
It is very concerning that sheep closer to the village have been worried by dogs, with some reportedly killed. It is the responsibility of each dog owner to ensure that their dogs are securely fenced in and not permitted to roam. From personal experience, I know this can be a challenge as a small distraction can allow a canine Houdini to slope off when your back is turned.
There are only two areas in Gunning where dogs are permitted to be off leash. One is Wilton Lane that runs adjacent to the railway track on part of the old Hume Highway heading towards Yass. The other is Endeavour Park (showground) excluding the main oval. The latter exclusion is perhaps counter-intuitive as the railing provides a means of containment.
PYE COTTAGE
Have you never visited Pye Cottage, or not been there for ages? Your opportunity to have a peek inside this piece of district history is this Saturday at 2.30pm, courtesy of the local Historical Society. After a look around, the group will wander down the street to the Foley Centre for a general meeting that will set the agenda for the rest of the year.
It is planned that in the near future some training will be offered by Council for those interested in doing guided tours for the various groups that visit Gunning and surrounds from time to time. Further information 4845 8217.
MUSICA DA CAMERA
This string orchestra under the baton of Leonard Weiss will play works from Parry, Handel, Wiren, Koehne and Janacek on Sunday at 2pm at Gunning Shire Hall. For further information please email michael.coley@bigpond.com or phone 0417 663 045.
SEEN AND HEARD
Here are a few the things that make living in a small community particularly special. When a local was rushed to hospital, staff from Gunning Community Care made sure her dog was cared for. The team at your local cafe know your regular coffee order. What about the young person at the newsagency who came down the street to a regular customer with mobility issues, and tucked her papers gently under her arm?
You can drop into Creative Gunning (corner Warrataw and Saxby Streets) and actually chat to the people who make all the wonderful art and craft items for sale.
