February was another busy month for the Towrang Brigade. A crew was sent to Queanbeyan to assist and we had a local fire when lightning struck a tree on the Carrick Road after an electrical storm. It is great to see local residents being so careful and aware.

As we get close to the end of the fire season, we begin the training season and the first of our members start the advanced firefighter course.
Show success
Gunning Show: Fiona Bulman, a new resident to the Towrang Valley area, was awarded a second place in the Handweaving and Spinning Section at the Gunning Show, held on February 19. Before moving to Goulburn in June of 2016, Fiona purchased a second-hand spinning wheel in the hopes that she would find a local group willing to teach her to spin. She joined the Goulburn Handweavers and Spinners, who were happy to help.
Canberra Show: Joan Evans received two champions, a first, second, third and highly commended with her folk art. Melissa Bensley and Ricky Jones judged the heavy and light harness classes. Kevin and Loretta Smith’s grandson, Rhys Smith, competed in the mounted games and received second place.
Towrang ‘Tavern’
The ‘Tavern’ gathering for this month will be on Friday March 31. Come along to the Towrang Hall from 6.30pm, bring your drinks, meal and don’t forget the kids. Great to catch up with the neighbours. All welcome.
Our end of month social gathering grows with nearly 30 people in attendance at the end of February. Although this is great to see, it is not the number of people that turn up, it is the quality and the amount of fun.
For those who don’t know, it operates as a BYOE tavern where, on the last Friday of the month, we all get together, have a nibble, a drink and a great chat. You can stay for as long or as little as you want and bring nibbles or a meal (barbecue available).
We ask a gold coin donation to help keep the lights on and that you bring your best humour with you. We currently see residents from Carrick Road, Tiyces Lane, Murrays Flats, Towrang Road and Narelle Lane.
