Malcolm and Rebecca Brierley, with their 18 year-old daughter, Georgia and 16 year-old twin sons, Joshua and Mitchell, moved from Kurrajong to Ada Vale, Bannaby two years ago. When the store was offered for sale they quickly took the chance to buy it from Matt and Jeanette.
Rebecca had a café in Kurrajong and Malcolm ran his own business. The couple is very interested in the history of the district and Rebecca collects pieces of historic memorabilia.
Joshua is the Australian Off-Road Enduro Bike Champion. Mitchell is close behind him as Runner-Up Champion. Georgia is a keen equestrian and specialises in Cross Country Eventing. Georgia is bringing her mare back into work after it has had a foal.
During the week the store will be open from 6.30am-6pm but will close at 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.
A HISTORIC DAY
The Taralga Historical Society will hold their grand opening of the restored Fernbank School on Sunday, October 1. The complex will open at 10am. Admission is free. The official opening will occur at 1.30pm, and the day will include a sausage sizzle, and demonstrations of sheep shearing, spinners and weavers and the ukelele group.
WILD DOG GROUP
Three members of the Wild Dog Group were invited to the South Eastern Local Land Service Board meeting on September 14 in Crookwell.
The Taralga members wanted to ensure that the LLS Board heard directly the concerns of land owners regarding the dog problem in the area. It was agreed that this problem would remain a high priority for the LLS Board and both the Taralga Wild Dog Group and the Goulburn LLS Team would continue to work to manage this issue.
BIG CAKE BAKE
Come along and support the Red Cross Big Cake Bake on Saturday, September 30 in front of the General Store and Tearooms from 9am. There will be cakes, plants and a range of merchandise on offer. Because many wish to participate in the opening of the newly restored Fernbank School, bingo will take place on Sunday, October 8.
MAUREEN GORDON
Friends of Maureen Gordon (nee Chapman) were saddened to learn of her passing on September 12. Maureen was the oldest of three daughters, Maureen, Pat and June, of Aub and Mary Chapman. After her marriage to Greg, Maureen lived in Bungendore, and was deeply involved with the country music scene.
GARDEN CLUB RELAXES
At the last meeting, 27 members of the Garden Club had a delicious morning tea, swapped plants and cuttings before enjoying a hilarious game of Exchange. Compliments were given for the tasty lunch supplied by Tahlia Collins assisted by Lisa Francis.
They will travel to Mittagong on Thursday, October 12 to see the peonies at Chinoiserie, the garden of Dominic and Chris. We have been invited to have our morning tea in the extensive cottage garden of more than an acre. The Perennial Hill Nursery will also be visited. Perennial Hill is one of the newer Open Gardens in the Southern Highlands. The cost of the trip with entry to the two gardens will be $50. Lunch will be at own expense. The bus will leave Laggan at 7.30am, Taralga 8am and Gordon Hotel 8.30am.
