Our members have been busy potting plants to contribute to a plant sale. Despite the low temperatures we experienced over winter, many plants were donated. The money raised by VIEW clubs supports the educational needs of students involved in the Learning for Life Program, and the work of the Smith Family.
In keeping with the Spring theme, our guest speaker was Ross Banwell. Ross is a keen gardener with an extensive knowledge of plants. His talk included topics such as how to prevent and treat curly leaf and codlin moth infestations in fruit trees. Another tip was on how to grow healthy tomatoes. Ross recommends changing the soil every few years and planting the tomatoes in fertilised soil in a square pattern rather than in straight lines. Ross was able to answer many questions for the members before being thanked by Lynette Brown for generously sharing his knowledge with us.
Bev Thompson then continued chairing the meeting. Members were thanked for contributing slices to the official opening of The Smith Family Store. Those who attended the opening were pleased to hear how much Learning for Life recipient Caitlyn appreciated her involvement with the scheme. Next month our meeting will be a Fun Night to be held at Wollondilly Gardens.
