The club was saddened by Joan’s death last year from complications associated with motor neurone disease.
Joan had often spoken with one of our members of her hope for Quota to have a fundraising function to help with funds for research into this monstrous disease.
A wonderful friend of Quota offered the club a beautifully handcrafted, large patchwork quilt for a raffle.
As the club’s annual High Tea was approaching, the seeds were sown to make this dream come true.
Another opportunity presented itself in the form of a cake stall at Bunnings on Easter Saturday and many cakes later and good community support a good start to the fundraising had begun.
Replies flooded in and the annual High Tea was held last Sunday afternoon with a packed hall, everyone happy to be there to celebrate ‘Two for Tea’. The tea theme was included in the decorations and the tables were set with members’ very best china, A tea quiz was held and many interesting tea facts shared, plus a tea crossword was hotly contested.
The afternoon, while a tribute to Joan, was also an afternoon of hope: for a cure, and for people to be inspired with ideas for research.
As the invitation said: Where there’s tea, there’s hope.
The Quota Club would like to thank everyone who supported this function, bought a cake at Bunnings, or bought a raffle ticket in the quilt draw, which was won by Natalie Densley.
You really did make Joan’s dream come true.
