Starting in the village of Breadalbane the course extended along the Old Hume Highway over the Cullerin Range before sweeping down to Fish River and the climb up to the turnaround point outside Gunning.
In overcast conditions 16 riders signed on for the race. A stiff easterly blowing made the outward journey fast but would provide some challenging conditions for the return leg.
C and D Grades were combined got proceedings underway with B Grade setting off a minute later and A Grade needing to make up two minutes.
The front runners set off at a steady pace but they were soon caught by the B Grade chasers who in turn were quick passed by A Grade.
Phil Champion and Chris Berry lifted the C Grade tempo and with the breeze at their backs caught and passed B Grade on the long descent toward Fish River.
Not to be outdone B Grade responded and passed C Grade again only to have C Grade pass them once more. On the climb out of Fish River B Grade overtook again and negotiated the turnaround with a slight advantage.
Chris Berry and Peter Jackson faded on the climb and had to time trial back to the finish line well behind the rest of C Grade.
Hill climbers, Nadine Moroney and Michael Hall attacked on the return climb to the top of the Cullerin Range opening up a lead over Anthony O’Connor (Vikings), Alex Parlett, Anthony Field and Phil Champion.
Working together Nadine and Michael maintained their advantage over the C Grade chasers to the finish line. With neither rider renowned for their sprinting prowess Michael eased passed Nadine at the Breadalbane church to win by two seconds.
Alex Parlett finished strongly out sprinting Phil Champion for third place.
The B Grade peloton stayed together up the return climb over the Cullerin Range but as Gavin Moroney and Phil Hansen increase the pace on the descent Josh Daniel began to feel the pinch from a lack of time on the bike and hit the wall.
Gavin and Phil continued to work together and in the final sprint to the line it was only the sharp eyes of judge, Mrs Bush who managed to separate the riders and awarded the win to Gavin Moroney.
Veteran Niels Laugesen found the pace by the younger riders in A Grade too hot and he spent the afternoon off the back time.
Nothing separated the other A Grade riders for the entire race. In a fantastic finish the race boiled down to a four up sprint for the line. Riley Fleming took the honours this week from Callum Emmerton second, Jacob Emmerton third and Cameron Roberts fourth.
